Overview
The 7-day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and well-paced trails to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m). It is known for its high success rate due to gradual acclimatization and offers breathtaking views as it traverses diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts and glacial peaks. The trek begins at Lemosho Gate (2,100m) on the western side of the mountain, leading through the rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m) on the first day. On day two, trekkers cross the Shira Plateau, arriving at Shira 2 Camp (3,900m). Day three involves a steep ascent to Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp (3,950m). On day four, climbers tackle the Barranco Wall, then continue to Karanga Camp (4,035m). Day five leads to Barafu Camp (4,673m), the base for the summit push. The most challenging part of the trek is the midnight ascent on day six, reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m) before descending to Mweka Camp (3,100m). The final day involves a descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where climbers receive their summit certificates. The 7-day version of Lemosho is more demanding than the 8-day route as it offers less time for acclimatization, making proper physical preparation essential. The best months to climb are January–March and June–October, ensuring favorable weather conditions.
